AllocBoard was born from years of helping manage research grants, and the spreadsheet chaos that comes with them.
The problem we kept seeing
A portfolio of EPSRC and EU Horizon grants can be run on nothing but Excel files and good intentions. Who is allocated where, how many person-months remain, whether the salary budget will hold, what has gone on travel and equipment, all of it across projects whose reporting periods overlap.
That holds until the numbers have to be assembled. Then they come out of a dozen files, get cross-checked against HR records by hand, and go to the funder on the hope that nothing was missed.
